Right....luxury I say...in my day we woulda killed fer some jewelry...we used to take chicken bones and used dental floss and string together our necklaces...oh and dont even get me started on all these fancy smancy rings and such ..why when we were young we used to melt down toxic slag from the mill down the way and then dip our fingers in the boiling hot metal to get the right size.....aye ..but we were happy then...

I soooo love my hubby. I found the engagement ring/wedding band set of my dreams. Grand total $1,200 of course that was 9 years ago, but he bought it for me and didn't blink. Now I would have married him without a ring if needed, and I certainly wouldn't have asked for a $5,000 set but I do think those adds saying men should spend 20% of a years salary on a ring are pure crap! Spend a modest amount on the ring and put the rest as a down payment on a house, that shows more intelligence and financial responsibility to me.

It's the ring that should have value, not the money behind it. Otherwise its just an empty gesture...
